The Manitoba Métis Federation’s Provincial Education department is facilitating the creation of a province-wide strategy on education. The goal is to ensure that support is provided to Red River Métis students at all levels of education beginning with K-12 right through to post-secondary education. To accomplish this the Red River Métis Education Strategy Working Group has been formed, composed of internal and external education stakeholders.
The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF), the National Government of the Red River Métis and the Government of Canada signed the Canada-Metis Nation Accord, through which the MMF is investing $90 million over ten years in support of Red River Métis post-secondary education. We are striving to close the post-secondary education attainment gaps between Red River Métis students and non-Indigenous Canadians through the delivery of a wide range of supports. This will contribute to the success of students and to the broader strategic outcomes of self-government and self-determination. The multi-layered approach of providing supports and financial aid to students strengthens their education and social and economic outcomes and contributes to life-long learning and success of Red River Métis students.
The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis is a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, founder of the Province of Manitoba, and Canada’s Negotiating Partner in Confederation.
The MMF promotes the political, social, cultural, and economic interests and rights of all Red River Métis Citizens. In addition, the MMF delivers programs and services for Citizens, including child and family services, justice, housing, youth, education, human resources, economic development, and natural resources.
